NZQA Maori Qualifications Services (MQS) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above. The unit standards in bold have been rolled over and revised.

Summary
This review was undertaken as part of the planned cycle of review of Māori Qualifications Services (MQS) unit standards.
MQS, along with the Whakaruruhau, reviewed the Te Ao Haka, New Māori Dance, New Māori Music unit standards to ensure they remain fit for purpose, current, and meet the aspirations and needs of ākonga, as well as whānau, hapū, and iwi. In response to feedback, MQS developed 11 new standards that focus on knowledge and/or skills across kapa haka forms and progression levels and the expiring of one standard.
All Māori Performing Arts Teaching unit standards were rolled over and revised to maintain their currency until they can be reviewed.
Main changes
The main changes that were made to the standards include the following:
· Standards 22755, 22757, 22760, 22762 and 18720 have increased credits to better reflect the notional learning hours needed to achieve the outcomes.
· Standard 22754 was replaced by two new standards which separate origins of Māori performing arts disciplines and origins of Māori performing arts events.
· Standards 32955 and 32956 were developed to show progressions of performance of a Māori performing arts bracket at higher levels than standard 22756.
· All current level 4 Te Ao Haka standards have been reviewed to separate the research and performance components. The research components of these standards have been registered as new standards 32969, 32971, 32972, 32973, and 32974.
· Standards 32953 and 32954 were developed to show progressions and performance of new Māori music composition/s at a higher level than standard 31193.
· Minimal changes to revised Māori Performing Arts Teaching standards, including the removal of entry information and updating standards to current format.
· Minor wording changes have been made to some outcomes and performance criteria for relevancy, consistency and to provide clarity for ākonga and kaiako.
· Glossaries have been updated.
· Grammatical errors have been corrected.
Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2023
The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2022
