Summary of review and consultation process |
The review of the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) was triggered in November 2020. Consultation with providers, industry representatives, current apprentices, and employers resulted in the need for changes to graduate outcomes and the qualification purpose. Initial consultation involved phone interviews with forty-two current apprentices and thirty-seven employers who train apprentices, and phone or on-site/face to face interviews with programme staff from eleven providers with programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry. An online survey returned 164 responses from construction businesses who train apprentices. The revised qualification was considered and agreed by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation National Advisory Groups for Carpentry and Commercial Construction. |
Main changes resulting from the review |
Title-strand Optional strand added to cover metal roof cladding installation. Strategic Purpose Statement Licenced Building Practitioner Scheme alignment statement shifted from the qualification Strategic Purpose Statement section to the Employment, Cultural, Community, Pathway section. Minor rewording of GPOs GPO 1. Building regulations and compliance replaces legislative frameworks GPO 4. Construction replaces wall, roof, ceiling, column, post, beam, and portal GPO 5. Roof cladding has been removed GPO 7. Support replaces supervise GPO 8. Commercially viable construction environment replaces commercial environment. New GPOs GPO 9. Apply knowledge of roof cladding installation methodology and weather proofing compliance requirements for buildings. (10 credits) GPO 10.
