Summary of review and consultation process

The review of the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) was triggered in November 2020. Consultation with providers, industry representatives, current apprentices, and employers resulted in the need for changes to graduate outcomes and the qualification purpose.  Initial consultation involved phone interviews with forty-two current apprentices and thirty-seven employers who train apprentices, and phone or on-site/face to face interviews with programme staff from eleven providers with programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry. An online survey returned 164 responses from construction businesses who train apprentices. The revised qualification was considered and agreed by the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation National Advisory Groups for Carpentry and Commercial Construction.
