Summary of review and consultation process

This is the first review of the suite of Tikanga qualifications since they were first registered on the NZQF in 2016. The Tikanga qualifications were reviewed on the purposes of relevancy, fit for purpose and are they meeting the aspirations and needs of whānau, hapū, and iwi. According to usage reporting, the qualifications are healthy in that they are used widely across the levels. Te Wānanga o Aotearoa being one of the largest users offering multiply programmes leading to the qualifications, along with other representatives at the review were keen to review and tidy some of the areas in the qualifications regarding learning progressions, ensuring that the wording in the Strategic Purpose statements and Graduate Profiles were aligning with each other. The review also provided the opportunity to update the mātāpono that reflects a Māori world view.

Main changes resulting from the review

Minor changes to all Tikanga qualifications are as listed:

-          Strategic Purpose Statements, Graduate Profile Outcomes, were written to better align and be consistent, clear in their intention for each area.

-          Ngā Mātāpono, were reviewed and re-worded for relevancy.

-          The learning progressions show a clear pathway from one level to the next.

-          Minor changes to the employment and education pathways – updated.
