Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering, and Logistics Workforce Development Council (WDC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Hanga-Aro-Rau WDC initiated a combined review of the unit standards in the Tissue Converting and Pulp and Paper Technology domains. This review was triggered by the regular 5-year review cycle. The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) consisted of industry and provider representatives. TAG meetings occurred between August and November 2022.
The reviewed unit standards were endorsed for re-registration by the TAG in December 2022.
Main changes
· Unit standard 5671 in the Pulp and Paper Technology domain was found to be surplus to the requirements for Pulp and Paper Technology, but crucial to Tissue Converting, and so has been moved into the Tissue Converting domain.
· Unit standards, 16592, 16594, 16598 and 23168, will be expired as these are surplus to requirements, either because the product (diapers) is no longer produced in New Zealand, or because the technology has been superseded.
· Unit standards, 16602 and 20439 have had their scope reduced to exclude diaper products, since diapers are no longer produced in New Zealand. The title, as well as the content of each of these unit standards has been adjusted to reflect this change which was minor so did not require a reduction of credits.
· Unit standards 16590, 16586 and 16763 have had their credit weightings increased. The revised credit weighting reflects the time required to acquire the knowledge and skills on the more complex machinery involved.
· Unit standards 27378 and 28778 have had their scope and titles corrected to include either embossing unit or laminating embossing unit.
· A new unit standard 33259 has been developed to meet industry need.
· All Guidance Information, outcome statements and performance criteria have been updated to include references to up-to-date legislation and assessment guidelines.
· The following unit standards have had minor title changes: 16583, 16584, 16595, 16602, 20439, 27378 and 28778 to provide consistency with the titles within this suite.
· Other changes to standards within this suite resulted from technological innovation within this sector as well as changes to accommodate another version of the machine and/or process.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2024

Unit standards were transferred from 0173 to 0013.
