Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published March 2023
Planned review date December 2027
Summary
This combined review was undertaken in conjunction with the review of the Print qualifications below.
Regular consultation meetings were held online with a Print advisory group throughout June to November 2022. The advisory group was made up of representatives from PrintNZ (the industry association), training providers and employers. A specialised technical advisory group reviewed the Pad Printing unit standards and oversaw the development of a proposed New Zealand Certificate in Pad Printing (Level 3). Consultation and feedback from industry stakeholders resulted in changes to unit standards as listed below. There are no changes to current Print Industry Management unit standards since industry stakeholders considered them to be fit for purpose.
Main changes
· Guidance information and document formatting have been updated across the suite of standards.
· Wording has been simplified across the suite of standards in response to industry stakeholder feedback for use of clear direct language.
· Performance criteria and range statements have been updated where relevant to reflect current print industry practice across the suite of unit standards.
· Eight unit standards have no usage over the past five years, and have been set to expire (Category D) where industry stakeholders indicated they would not be used in the future.
· Credit values for four Pad Printing unit standards have been decreased. Industry stakeholders indicated less time was required for learning and assessment activities since aspects of the pad printing process are now predetermined.
· Outcome 3 has been removed in unit standard 24988 in response to industry stakeholder feedback that pre-production design content is not relevant to current pad printing processes.
· Outcome 1 has been removed in unit standard 24993 because industry stakeholder feedback indicated it was not necessary to duplicate the content on halftones, which is already covered in outcome 2 in unit standard 24988.
· The level of unit standard 16756 has increased from 2 to 3. Industry stakeholders considered this to be the appropriate level for the unit standard since candidates will be able to perform tasks under limited supervision upon completion of the unit standard.
· Unit standards 5129 and 5130 have been expired. Their content has been consolidated into a new unit standard 33235. This enables learners to achieve the unit standard using older systems (to allow for variation across workplaces), while reducing the number of unit standards that are very similar.
· Minor changes were made to purpose statement, outcomes and associated performance criterion, where relevant, to unit standards 5131, 5138 and 5140, and 16796 to accommodate optional use of scraper in screen printing.
· Unit standard 16771 has been reinstated in response to a request from industry stakeholders. Since a new Graduate Outcome Profile (GPO) in production planning has been added to the New Zealand Certificate in Print (level 4), there is a renewed need for a unit standard in production planning. The title has also been updated to more accurately reflect the wording used in the unit standard text.
· The credit value in unit standard 26729 was increased from 20 to 30 due to industry stakeholder feedback that troubleshooting forms a large part of the workload.
· Titles were updated in unit standards 16772 and 32135 to more accurately reflect the wording used in the unit standard text.
· Unit standard 21328 – minor updates to wording of outcomes 1,4,6,7 and 8 for consistency with the performance criteria descriptions. The purpose statement has been updated accordingly.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2025
