Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published March 2023
Planned review date December 2027
Summary
This combined review was undertaken in conjunction with the following Print qualifications:
Regular consultation meetings were held online with a Print advisory group throughout June to November 2022. The advisory group was made up of fifteen members, representing PrintNZ (the industry association), training providers and employers. Consultation and feedback from industry stakeholders resulted in changes to unit standards as listed below. In many unit standards, the technical print processes remain largely unchanged or there have only been small shifts resulting from technological changes.
Main changes
· Guidance information and document formatting has been updated across the suite of unit standards to meet current NZQA requirements.
· Wording has been simplified across the suite of unit standards in response to industry stakeholder request for use of clear direct language.
· Performance criteria and range statements have been updated where relevant to reflect current print industry practises.
· Any unit standard with no usage over the past five years has been expired where industry stakeholders indicated it would not be used in the future.
· Unit standard 23408 has been expired and a new unit standard 33186 was developed with three new outcomes. This aligns with the industry knowledge unit standards across the Printing domains.
· Unit standard 27669 has been expired and a new unit standard 33188 at level 4 was developed. The content on logotype design is no longer used, and typography is considered to be the most relevant content to printers by industry stakeholders.
· Unit standard 12376 has been expired and a new unit standard 33183 was developed. Content on colour theory was considered to fit better in other offset printing unit standards. The new standard aligns with the content across equivalent unit standards across the Printing suite.
· Unit standard 19462 has been expired and replaced with unit standard 33185. The level has increased from 2 to 3 due to industry feedback that candidates will be able to perform some tasks under limited supervision upon completion of the unit standard. Outcomes four and five were removed as industry feedback indicated the content was no longer relevant and a new outcome four was added to align with the equivalent unit standards across the Printing suite.
· Unit standard 10920, the level has increased from 2 to 3 due to industry feedback that candidates will be able to perform some tasks under limited supervision upon completion of the unit standard. Wording has been updated in purpose statement and outcomes where relevant and new performance criteria have been added to outcomes one and five to reflect current industry practices, and to align with equivalent ‘assist print operator’ unit standards. Performance criterion 5.8 has been removed since it did not directly relate to the outcome.
· Unit standard 26314, the level has increased from 2 to 3 due to industry feedback that candidates will be able to perform some tasks under limited supervision upon completion of the unit standard. The credit value has increased from 12 to 15 to align with equivalent ‘assist print operator’ unit standards. Wording has been updated in purpose statement and outcomes where relevant and new performance criteria have been added to outcomes one and five for the same reasons outlined above. Performance criterion 5.8 has been removed since it did not directly relate to the outcome.
· Unit standard 26321, a new outcome (2) has been added and new performance criteria have been added to outcomes four and ten. This aligns general print industry knowledge that is applicable across the set of print industry knowledge unit standards (reel-fed, sheet-fed and dry offset printing).
· Unit standard 26315, new performance criteria have been added to outcomes five and eleven to align generic outcomes used across the set of print industry knowledge unit standards.
· Unit standard 12373 credit value has decreased from 40 to 30 credits to align with equivalent unit standard in sheet-fed printing. Outcome 3 and purpose statement have been updated for clarity.
· Unit standard 12377 credit value has increased from 10 to 15 credits due to addition of content from unit standard 12380 (four colour process) which has been expired, and to align with equivalent sheet-fed unit standard.
· Unit standard 26319, 26322, 26316 and 25342 purpose statement and outcomes have been updated where appropriate because ‘to meet job requirements’ has been moved to the guidance information since it applies to all outcomes within the unit standard.
· Credit value for unit standards 16509 and 16526 has increased from 5 to 6 credits due to feedback from industry stakeholders and to align with equivalent unit standard 3642.
· Unit standard 355, 20099, 23554, 26310 and 33186 purpose statement and outcomes have been updated where relevant for improved consistency with the performance criteria descriptions.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2025
