Summary
Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council reviewed the seven Adventure Tourism and two Horse Trek Guiding unit standards above. It was noted that only four of the nine standards reported usage in the past five-year period. The remaining five standards, with no or low usage, were expired.
Pre-review feedback from the sector was sought and an expert panel, comprised of industry and provider representatives, convened in November 2022. The panel recommended that a single replacement standard combining the content of three standards would better meet sector needs. Wider consultation was undertaken in December 2022 on the proposed new standard, the reviewed standards, and the expiry of eight unit standards, and no objections were received.
Main changes
· Unit standard 19425 was changed from Level 2 to Level 3 to better reflect the complexities of changes to industry standards and legal requirements for Adventure Tourism activities; the guidance information was updated to include Worksafe and Support Adventure links related to Adventure Activities and associated regulations and good practice information; and performance criteria 1.1 was adjusted to better reflect these requirements.
· New unit standard 33197 replaced standards 12406, 12407 and 25988.
· Unit standards 12408, 19426, 25852,17748 and 17749 were expired without replacement.
· Horse Trek Guiding domain will lapse when the two unit standards 17748 and 17749 expire in 2025.
· Unit standards were updated to the new NZQA template.
· Standard setting body details were updated from ServiceIQ to Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council.
· Unit standards were transferred from CMR 78 to CMR 112.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2025
