Summary

This review was undertaken by Waihanga Ara Rau in collaboration with the Toitū te Waiora review of other asbestos unit standards.  Consultation with providers, industry association and various tertiary education organisations (TEO) occurred from August 2022 to December 2023.  Consultation included one-on-one and small group meetings, email, and online meetings.  Feedback was collated, analysed, and actioned.  The final drafts were supported by all interested parties.

Main changes

·       Iterative changes were made to Guidance Information text to define ACM, friable and non-friable asbestos and to update to the current versions of references and potential range of asbestos in construction products.

·       Outcome 2 was updated.

·       Performance Criteria (PC) were updated to include a range for where asbestos is likely to be found in the construction industry, a range to clarify expectations for descriptions of ACM, and to describe friable and non-friable asbestos.

·       A new PC was added to Outcome 2 to include a description of the procedure to follow when asbestos is identified on a worksite.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is 31 December 2025.
