Summary

Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council undertook a review of commercial road transport unit standards in 2023 in consultation with employers, training providers and industry associations.  At the time of the review, unit standard 1756 had not been used in the past five years and industry stakeholders indicated it was unlikely to be used in the future.  Unit standard 1756 was set to expire in 2025.

Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council was recently contacted by a training provider who has new approved programmes which use unit standard 1756.  They have requested that the unit standard is made current since they have learners enrolled in programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Dairy Processing (Level 4) with optional strands in Automated Cleaning, and Heat Treatment [Ref: 2563].

There were no changes to outcomes or assessment criteria during this process.

Main changes

· Unit standard 1756 status was changed from expiring to current since it is now being used in programmes as stated above.

· Minor changes were made to guidance information to align with other unit standards in the commercial road transport suite.

· References to ‘organisational and legal requirements’ were removed from applicable assessment criteria since this is already stated in the guidance information.

· The last date of assessment in version 5 was changed from 31 December 2025 to N/A so that it can still be used in current programmes since the content is the same.
