Summary of development/review and consultation process

Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering, and Logistics Workforce Development Council met with a wide range of industry stakeholders, including representatives from industry associations, employers, and Te Pūkenga subsidiaries between June 2022 – April 2024 to undertake a combined review of the commercial road transport qualifications and associated unit standards.

Regular online meetings were conducted to discuss industry training needs and identify any skills gaps, and to ensure that the qualifications were fit for purpose.  Smaller technical advisory groups were formed for specialised areas within commercial road transport, including heavy haulage, waste transportation, groundspreading and dangerous goods.

A separate technical advisory group was formed in June 2023 to undertake the Level 5 qualification review, which resulted in new micro-credential development.
