Date new versions published July 2024
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council met with representatives from the automotive parts and accessories industry including employers, Motor Trades Association, and training providers. Regular meetings were held online from June 2023 to March 2024 to undertake a combined review of the New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Parts and Accessories (Level 3) [Ref: 4004] and associated unit standards.
In response to requests by industry stakeholders, a new level 4 qualification was developed to enhance career pathways in the automotive parts and accessories sector, with the intention to develop this into a new automotive parts and accessories apprenticeship. Four new skill standards were developed specifically for the new qualification as outlined below.
Main changes
· A new skill standard 40076 was developed to meet a skills gap in advanced parts interpretation and complex problem solving skills.
· A new skill standard 40080 was developed to increase understanding of cost management factors and profitability in an automotive parts and accessories environment.
· A new skill standard 40094 was developed to meet a skills gap in the interpretation of maintenance product information to ensure compatible products are recommended to customers.
· A new skill standard 40095 was developed to increase understanding of business optimisation processes including inventory levels and stock turnover, since this is a critical component of a parts and accessories business.
