Registration of Commercial Road Transport skill standards
The Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the development of four skill standards.
Date new versions published July 2024
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council consulted with employers, industry associations and training providers to undertake a combined review of commercial road transport (CRT) qualifications and unit standards. Industry stakeholders identified that micro-credentials are likely to be more accessible to learners due to the long work hours prevalent in the CRT industry. They also identified a need to provide flexible and targeted training to enable learners to upskill in different areas, depending on their previous experience. A specialised technical advisory group was formed to undertake micro-credential development and regular online meetings were held from June 2023 to March 2024. New skill standards were developed for use in micro-credentials where there were no relevant existing unit standards. Four new skill standards were developed for communication, dispatch operations, and data collection and analysis micro-credentials.
Main changes
· Skill standard 40104 was developed to provide an introduction to dispatch operations. Currently there is no formal training available for dispatch operations in the commercial road transport industry.
· Skill standard 40105 was developed for co-ordinating heavy vehicle maintenance during dispatch operations, including repairs and break downs. This is essential for ensuring compliance with safety and legal regulations, and to minimise delays which can impact operational performance.
· Skill standard 40107 was developed for communication in response to industry stakeholder feedback that communication skills are critical to commercial road transport operations and help improve safety, compliance and performance.
· Skill standard 40109 was developed for data collection and analysis. This is intended to help people leverage digital technologies to identify and rectify any issues, and improve operational performance.
