Planned review date                                                                              December 2029

Summary

The skill standard has been developed in response to industry feedback on the need for the standard, which is designed to help learners excel in the role of storyteller, particularly in the tourism industry, with a focus on the integration of culture, language and values.

The skill standard was developed in consultation with industry and providers with meetings held during 2023, and an open consultation process via Ringa Hora’s website during February – March 2024.

The idea for the new skill standard was driven by industry, informed by the Tourism Industry Transformation Plan, and was one of the key recommendations made at the Ringa Hora Kaupapa Māori Tourism Hui with industry last year. A review of the Visitor Interpretation standards in 2023 and the current review of New Zealand Certificate in Tour Guiding also supported the need for the new standard.
