Summary of review and consultation process

This review follows on from the development of skill standards, for programmes leading to the Youth Work qualifications approved by NZQA in February 2023.

As a result, further preliminary engagements with the Youth Work sector Advisory Group indicated these qualifications needed to be updated again to articulate a coherent and consistent use of sector language.  The qualifications suite required clearer integration of the principles of Mana Taiohi to better reflect the Youth Work environment and to provide clear alignment with the Youth Work skill standards suite.

The proposed changes were discussed and changes to the qualifications were made.  Feedback was positive and the proposed changes were accepted.

Main changes resulting from the review process

·         The term ‘young people’ was changed to ‘taiohi’.

·         Youth Development Strategy Aotearoa (2002) reference was removed.

·         Code of Ethics for Youth in Aotearoa New Zealand (2011) reference was changed to The Code of Ethics - Ara Taiohi.

·         Mana Taiohi Framework - Ara Taiohi reference was changed to Mana Taiohi - Ara Taiohi.

·         Strategic purpose statements - minor wording change to reflect Mana Taiohi principles.

·         Graduate profile outcome number sequence was re-aligned in the Level 4-6 qualifications to provide clearer progression and better reflect the Youth Work environment, and to provide clear alignment with the Youth Work Skill Standards suite.
