Registration of Telecommunications – Service Delivery skill standards
Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has registered new skill standards for the telecommunications industry.
Date new versions published June 2024
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
The skill standards listed below were developed to align with the GPOs of the new qualification New Zealand Certificate in Data Cabling (Level 3) [Ref: 5057]. Development of both the qualification and standards began in consultation with industry representatives in June 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
Online meetings were held in 2023 and 2024 and were attended by industry representatives and a potential provider. The attendees outlined the skills required of an entry level data cabling technician and the skill set was agreed on.
One standard focuses on worksite safety practices and use of common data cabling tools for basic tasks which are relevant across the other skill standards to avoid repetition.
Each of the remaining five standards focus on the application of a specific set of skills:
· Installing cable support systems
· Installing data cables
· Terminating and testing data cables
· Installing data cabinets
· Connecting enterprise network equipment.
Main changes
· Six new skill standards were developed.
