Summary of development/review and consultation process

Toitū te Waiora Workforce Development Council was contacted by Marie Montessori Education Foundation (MMEF), the developer of the local qualification, requesting that it be reviewed to become a New Zealand qualification.

Details of the AMI 3-6 Diploma in Montessori Education (Level 7) – a local qualification – were transferred onto the current template for New Zealand qualifications, information gaps and discrepancies were identified for MMEF to work jointly with Toitu te Waiora to develop a first draft of the qualification, to be used for sector consultation.

This draft of the reviewed/replacement qualification was advertised on the Toitū te Waiora WDC website and circulated to all known stakeholders for feedback.

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

The qualification was reviewed to be listed a New Zealand Diploma (Level 7). The local qualification was transferred onto the current NZQA template and all sections were populated, including the education pathway, award, evidence required for ensuring consistency, and programme conditions.

The title was developed to reflect current NZQA Qualification Rules.

The graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) were reviewed to ensure consistency with current practice and NZQA Level Descriptors.

The qualification credits were reduced from 123 to 120.

The GPO credits were distributed equally across the GPOs, a value of 40 credits per outcome.
