Summary of development/review and consultation process

Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed an early review of the New Zealand Certificate in Industrial Textile Fabrication (Level 4) [Ref: 2544].

The Industrial Textiles Fabrication Review was initiated in August 2022 following an early review request received from industry and provider representatives, who stated that the current qualification was not fit for purpose for programme development in its current form. The new version of the qualification provides a more practical focus and the opportunity to specialise in fabrication or trimming.

Consultation took place between August 2022 and December 2023 with representatives of the industrial textile fabrication industry employers, industry association and training providers. Regular online meetings were conducted to discuss industry training needs and identify any skills gaps, and to ensure the qualification was fit for purpose.

The reviewed qualification was circulated to stakeholders by email and a consultation held at the annual industry conference. All feedback was considered by the advisory group.

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

-  The title of the qualification was changed to New Zealand Certificate in Advanced Textiles (Level 4) with strands in Industrial Textile Fabrication and Industrial Trimming.

-  Qualification credits were increased from 80 to 120 credits to reflect the required learning and assessment time more accurately.

-  Graduate profile outcomes were updated to reflect the required skills and knowledge of graduates as required by industry.

-  Education pathway was updated to reflect changes to the pathway and to include trimming roles.

-  Standard setting body was updated from MITO New Zealand Incorporated to Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council.

-  The body of changes above necessitated that a new qualification be created, and the existing qualification replaced.
