Summary of the revision

 

Toitū te Waiora Community, Health, Education, and Social Services WDC has completed the revision of CMR 0121 with support from Ringa Hora Services WDC and Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure WDC.

 

The revision was completed to add additional requirements for providers applying for consent to assess against newly registered skill standard 40316 which was developed to be used within the New Zealand firearms licensing process. The additional requirements relate to the safe use of any firearm and ammunition for learning purposes and the intention for assessment by Royal New Zealand Police College.

 

Compliance with new requirements

 

Consent requirements will apply with effect from December 2024. 

 

Organisations with consent to assess will be expected to be able to demonstrate compliance with the CMR from December 2024 onwards.

 

Main changes

 

·            Addition of skill standard 40316 Demonstrate safe use of firearms in accordance with the New Zealand Firearms Safety Code to the Occupational Health and Safety Practice domain.

 

Consent Requirements

·            Additional requirements for providers intending to assess skill standard 40316 have been added to Appendix 8 Occupational Health and Safety Sector.

-            Criterion 6: Teaching and assessing staff must hold a current firearms license. Any sub-contracting arrangements must stipulate the safe use of any firearm and ammunition (disabled or active).

-            Criterion 7: This standard is intended for assessment by Royal New Zealand Police College (7207). Any provider who wishes to gain consent to assess against this skill standard will need to seek approval from Royal New Zealand Police College and provide evidence of this approval when making an application to either Toitū te Waiora WDC and/or NZQA.
