Summary

Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council undertook a review of the unit standards listed above as part of a wider sector initiative. This review was triggered by the regular 5-year review cycle. The unit standards have been reviewed in line with current industry practice, and to ensure they are fit for purpose.

A series of Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meetings were held between April 2024 and August 2024 to complete this review. The Technical Advisory Group consisted of industry and provider representatives with consent to assess, and representatives from industry stakeholder organisations, including the Plumbing Gasfitting and Drainlaying Board.

The goal was to ensure that the current and proposed unit standards met industry needs and reflected current practices within the plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying sector.

Following the review, public consultation was held in late August and early September 2024. Feedback received was reviewed and decisions were made in consultation with the TAG group representatives, resulting in the changes below.

Main changes

·         Changes were made to the unit standards to reflect industry practices, industry terms and to update references to regulations and legislative instruments.

·         Unit standards 25414 and 25421 had title changes to improve clarity.

·         Unit standards 25419 and 25422 increased from NZQCF Level 2 to Level 3 to reflect content changes.

·         Unit 30576 had a credit value increase from 7 to 8 to reflect content changes.

·         A new unit standard was developed to introduce knowledge of regulatory frameworks and occupational licensing requirements.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B standards is December 2026
