Summary

Development took place between August and October 2024 with representatives from Ministry of Health – Manatū Hauora, Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, and PodiatryNZ. The decision to develop skill standards - and an accompanying micro-credential - was made following a request from the Health Minister to develop skill standards for supporting a foot care assistant micro-credential.

The skill standards are intended for use in podiatry settings, with foot care techniques and safety measures assessed under professional supervision. Toitū te Waiora Community, Health, Education and Social Services Workforce Development Council is intending to develop a further suite of level 4 podiatry skill standards in due course.

Main changes

Three new foot care assistant skill standards were developed for registration on the Directory of Assessment and Skill Standards.
