The Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published November 2024
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
Waihanga Ara Rau analysed existing construction unit standard and module-based programmes including carpentry, roofing, painting and decorating, as well as conducted a survey targeted at construction industry representatives at the end of 2023. This analysis was to identify common competencies that are valued across the construction environment.
Initial consultation through an online survey was to confirm industry support for the development of a set of core construction skill standards. There was strong support for the development of a set of skill standards that reflect critical common skills that are valued across construction.
Further consultation, through a webinar and series of focussed hui in April-May 2024 provided the details needed to help shape the draft Core Construction skill standards. The standards were drafted at the project’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) kanohi-ki-te-kanohi (in person) hui in June 2024. The TAG was made up of representatives from across construction industries and from education providers. The draft skill standards were made available on our webpage for wider feedback.
Wider consultation feedback, with the support of the TAG, finalised the skill standards. As a result, the unit standards listed will be replaced and/or expired with skill standards.
All providers with consent to assess the unit standards included in this review have been informed of the outcome and expiry of the unit standards in this application.
Main changes
· 26 new skill standards developed to describe common competencies valued across the construction environment were listed in the Core Construction domain.
· Nine unit standards were replaced by 18 new skill standards with some changes in level and credit value to better reflect the expected learning hours for the skills described.
· Four unit standards were designated expiring without replacement.
Category C and D standards will expire at the end of December 2027
