Summary

Waihanga Ara Rau WDC reviewed these unit standards in line with the scheduled 5-year review cycle to align to current industry practice, and to ensure that they are fit for purpose.

Regular Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meetings were held between September 2023 and April 2024 to complete this review.  The TAG consisted of industry and provider representatives with consent to assess, with representatives from civil plant operation, infrastructure works, WorkSafe, employers, assessment writers and subject matter experts.

Feedback received was reviewed and decisions were made in consultation with the TAG group representatives resulting in the changes below.  Two new unit standards were developed to meet the skill needs identified by industry for the operation of telehandlers with stabilisers and rotating telehandlers.

Main changes

·     Guidance information, legislation, performance criteria and range statements were amended to reflect the content and scope of the work required to meet current industry practice.

·     Unit standard 23637 had the title amended to specify the scope, and credits reduced to 10 to accurately reflect the notional hours required for learning and assessment completion.

·     Unit standard 31245 had the title amended to reflect its use beyond infrastructure works environments, and credits increased to 10 to accurately reflect the notional hours required for learning and assessment completion.

·     Unit standard 33425 was developed to address the skills gap required for the operation of telehandlers above 12 metre size with stabiliser.

·     Unit standard 33426 was developed to address the skills gap required for the operation of rotating telehandlers.

·     The Standard Setting Body changed from Connexis Infrastructure to Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2027.
