Summary of development and consultation process |
|
The qualification is a new development facilitated by Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council in collaboration with Master Joiners and representatives from the joinery industry. The qualification was driven by the shortage of joinery detailers and to credentialise joinery detailers employed in the industry without a qualification. The joinery industry expressed the need for quality training to acknowledge the unique skills of joinery detailers. Waihanga Ara Rau consulted with industry representatives across Aotearoa New Zealand with a questionnaire, site visits to joinery factories, and a presentation at the Master Joiner conference during 2023. Technical Advisory Group meetings were held over 9 months from 21 September 2023 to 29 May 2024 to draft the qualification and the mandatory skill standards set-out in the qualification. Consultation on the final draft qualification was held in May 2024 with all respondents and Master Joiners supporting listing of the qualification. |
