Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has registered new skill standards and reviewed the existing unit standards in the Painting and decorating domain.

Date new versions published                                                               April 2025

Planned review date                                                                              December 2029

Summary

Waihanga Ara Rau developed skill standards to meet industry requirements of supporting learner pathways into the painting and decorating trades. Twelve of these skill standards will be used in programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Painting and Decorating (Level 4) with strands in Spray Systems, Wallcoverings, and Specialised Coatings [Ref: 3568-3].

The development was overseen by a technical advisory group consisting of industry representatives with the appropriate knowledge and skills in painting and decorating, programme development, and assessment. The technical advisory group convened in November 2023 with online meetings to develop the skill standards held from February through to August 2024.

The draft skill standards were distributed for wider industry consultation with key stakeholders, including providers and the Master Painters membership organisation. All feedback was considered and actioned where appropriate.

Main Changes

·           14 new skill standards were developed.

·           39 unit standards were expired without replacement as they are no longer fit for purpose.

·           14 unit standards were expired and replaced by new skill standards.
