Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of 37 unit standards listed above and registration of 16 skill standards.
Date new versions published April 2025
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
Online meetings were held throughout October 2023 – December 2024 with a wide
range of stakeholders, including representatives from WasteMINZ, New Zealand Trade and Industrial Waters
Forum, New Zealand Demolition and Asbestos Association, Building Research
Association of New Zealand (BRANZ), Composite Association of New Zealand, district councils, Ministry for Environment, employers,
training providers and subject matter experts.
Most unit standards were expired without replacement due to no usage for over five years.
New skill standards were developed to reflect current industry practices and terminology. Skill standards were designed to be flexible so they can be applied across a range of different resource recovery contexts. The changes outlined below were made in consultation with industry stakeholders.
Main changes
· 31 unit standards were expired without replacement.
· Six unit standards were expired and replaced with five new skill standards.
· Replacement skill standards 40607 and 40610 credit value was decreased from 3 to 2 credits in response to feedback from industry stakeholders.
· Replacement skill standard 40618 was moved from Resource Efficiency to the Recycling and Recovery domain since waste audits are applicable to many recycling and recovery operations.
· 11 new skill standards were developed in Resource Recovery Operations and Recycling and Recovery domains to reflect current industry practices.
Category C and D unit standards will expire on 31 December 2025
