Summary

Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council identified unit standards in the Electrical Services Technician and Electrotechnology domains which were overdue for review.  To allow delivery to continue while an electrotechnology skills framework is developed, Waihanga Ara Rau proposed to rollover and revise these unit standards, with a new review date of December 2027.  Providers with consent to assess the unit standards were emailed in April 2025 and the information was also publicised on the Waihanga Ara Rau website.

No suggestions for revision were received except to update references to legislation. AS/NZS 3000:2018 and AS/NZS 3760:2022 are not yet cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010.  To address this, the two sector regulators, WorkSafe and the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB), have agreed that any reference to AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3760 will state (version as cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations), instead of including the year.

Main changes

·      The planned review date was extended from 31 December 2024 to 31 December 2027.

·      Legislation was updated to current versions, except where they are not yet cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations.

·      References to AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3760 had the year replaced with (version as cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations).

·      Reference to SA/SNZ HB 252:2014 Communications cabling manual - Module 3: Residential communications cabling handbook was deleted in unit standards 32021 and 32023, because the standard has been withdrawn.

·      Standard Setting Body details were changed from The Skills Organisation to Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council.

Impact on Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR)

CMR reference was changed from 0003 to 0120.
