Summary of development/review and consultation process

New Zealand Board for Engineering Diplomas (NZBED) changed its name in 2021 to Vocational

Engineering Education, New Zealand (VEE.NZ) to govern and guide the vocational education

and training for engineering technicians and technologists, ensuring that the NZDE (Dublin Accord) and the BEngTech (Sydney Accord) continue to meet the requirements of the international accords, which are managed by Engineering New Zealand (ENZ).

The NZDEP is aligned with Engineering New Zealand’s (ENZ’s) competence standard for engineering

technicians seeking recognition as a Chartered Member – CMEngNZ (Engineering Technician).

VEE.NZ consulted with stakeholders on the importance and sustainability of the NZDEP qualification. The stakeholder meeting confirmed the importance of and need for the NZDEP qualification in the engineering industry sector. The meeting also confirmed the current version of the qualification is still fit for purpose, with minor updates to ensure currency. The VEE.NZ board approved the review outcome.
