Summary of review and consultation process

Ringa Hora Services Workforce Development Council reviewed the above qualifications between October 2024 and January 2025.

The review was carried out in collaboration with subject matter experts and the current programme owner.

The qualifications were considered to still be fit for purpose, although some minor amendments were recommended. Based on the feedback, the draft qualifications were refined prior to seeking wider feedback through the Ringa Hora website. The final drafts were supported by interested parties.

 

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

For both qualifications:

  • The word destination has been removed from the Strategic Purpose Statement, to allow for wider marketing concepts and initiatives to be covered
  • The word hotel has been removed from the Strategic Purpose Statement and the Employment, Cultural, Community Pathway as this is covered under hospitality.
  • Qualification Award statement has been updated.
  • General Conditions for Programme gives guidance to education providers on programme endorsement considerations.

 

New Zealand Certificate in Professional Wine Knowledge (Level 5) [Ref: 4285]

  • The word hotel has been removed from Graduate Profile Outcomes (GPOs) 1 and 3.
  • The requirement to prepare premium cocktails has been removed from GPO 5.

 

New Zealand Diploma in Professional Wine Management (Sommelier) (Level 6) [Ref: 4286]

  • The word hotel has been removed from GPOs 1 and 5.
  • The word destination has been removed from GPO 1.
  • The term restaurants, hotels, and vineyard cellar doors has been removed from GPO 3 and replaced by the word businesses.
  • The term winery, hospitality, hotel and tourism has been removed from GPO 7.
  • The term organic and biodynamic has been removed from GPO 8.
