Summary
Unit standards in the Beauty Therapy domain covering topics in makeup were reviewed to align with the latest version of the New Zealand Certificate in Skin Care and Cosmetics (Level 3) [Ref: 3442].
The unit standards listed above, which align with the previous version of the qualification or duplicated some content covered in skill standards developed, were designated expiring following consultation with current users.
Content of new skill standards was developed in conjunction with the review of the qualification, with a view to providing a guidance document for programme developers. The development of the four skill standards and guidance document was overseen by the same specialist advisory group consisting of representatives from both industry and providers with programmes. A subgroup was subsequently formed to compose the skill standards themselves and met multiple times between March and July 2024. The draft standards were distributed for consultation with key stakeholders that included both providers and industry in late 2024, where all feedback was considered and actioned where appropriate.
Main changes
· Four new skill standards were developed to align with the graduate outcomes of the reviewed qualification [Ref: 3442] and current practice.
· Three unit standards were designated expiring and replaced by two of the new skill standards.
· One unit standard was designated expiring without replacement (Category D), as it is no longer considered relevant or fit for purpose.
Category C and D standards will expire at the end of December 2026
