The Toi Mai Workforce Development Council has completed the revision of the standards listed above.
Date new versions published February 2025
Planned review date December 2025
Summary
Toi Mai was advised that the pre-requisite statement in the Level 3 Diving standards did not reflect the current version of the relevant medical questionnaire and needed updating for consistency with industry practice.
The existing pre-requisite statement did not align with the current recommended UHMS Medical Guidelines and required all learners, regardless of health status, to provide a current doctor’s certificate. This was imposing barriers to participation for some. The statement was originally included during the last review, as a result of Covid-19. At the time it was a requirement of the guidelines for all learners to provide a doctor’s certificate before diving. However, this was removed from the medical questionnaire in 2021.
Consultation regarding the revision of the pre-requisite statement took place between August 2024 and October 2024, reaching out to stakeholders, schools, providers and industry.
Main changes
· The pre-requisite requiring a medical clearance signed by a physician was amended to reflect the requirements of the medical questionnaire - Recreational Diver Medical Screening System (DMSS).
· Updated standard setting body to Toi Mai Workforce Development Council.
