Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the 25 unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published February 2025
Summary
Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing,
Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council undertook a combined
review of the Resource Recovery qualifications below and associated unit
standards in consultation with industry stakeholders.
Online meetings were held throughout October 2023 – December 2024 with a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from industry associations WasteMINZ, New Zealand Trade and Industrial Waters Forum, district councils, Ministry for Environment, employers, training providers and subject matter experts.
Since unit standards in Zero Waste Theory and Practice have not been used for over five years and new skill standards were developed under the Resource Recovery subfield, a decision was made to expire zero waste unit standards without replacement since industry stakeholders identified they would not be used in the future.
Stakeholders were also consulted
to determine the need for solid waste training. Feedback was received that the
solid waste unit standards can be expired without replacement since they
haven’t been used for over 5 years and will not be used in the future due to low
demand for formal training in solid waste operations.
Main changes
· 21 zero waste unit standards were expired without replacement.
· 4 solid waste unit standards were expired without replacement.
Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2025
