Registration of Maintenance and Diagnostics in Mechanical Engineering skill standards

Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has registered new skill standards in the Maintenance and Diagnostics in Mechanical Engineering domain.

Summary

Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council have developed these new skill standards in close collaboration with industry experts, including operators across New Zealand’s ski fields, gondola systems, and passenger ropeway manufacturers and installers – these standards reflect the collective expertise and insights from across the sector.  Consultation commenced in March 2023.

Developing specialised skill standards for the passenger ropeway industry is both necessary and timely, as no previous unit standards addressed the unique skills required in this sector.  This new suite of skill standards has been developed to meet the needs of the passenger ropeway maintenance sector.

These skill standards comprehensively cover the maintenance of all types of passenger ropeways, from tow ropes to gondolas, ensuring that the full range of passenger ropeways in Aotearoa, New Zealand, is addressed, therefore allowing learners to select relevant standards to their own operations and skill needs.  Additionally, these standards are forward-looking, incorporating global developments in the industry to future-proof the skills of maintenance engineers.

Main changes

· Eight new skill standards were developed to maintain passenger ropeways, enhance safety, and ensure the industry’s continued development in New Zealand.
