Summary

Toitū te Waiora Workforce Development Council received a request from a provider to review unit standard 27081.

The goal of this review was to make minor edits for currency purposes and widen from a mental health and addiction context to cover health and wellbeing contexts.  De-escalation approaches are relevant across a broad range of health and wellbeing environments.  Further, the changes will align the unit standard to better reflect context within de-escalation micro credentials.

The unit standard was thought to be fit-for-purpose.  Areas of improvement were identified to align the unit standard with the reviewed micro-credential while also replacing the environment of mental health and addiction services with the broader context of a health and wellbeing setting.  This is to allow for assessment of this standard across a broader range of environments.

The proposed changes to the unit standard were circulated to stakeholders, with an update published on the Toitū te Waiora website.  The final draft was supported by all interested parties.
