Summary of development/review and consultation process

Toi Mai has worked with industry and providers to review this qualification.

Key phases in the development process included:

·         Industry wānanga held in Wellington in August 2024 attended by industry, graduates and provider representatives. The qualification was discussed and changes drafted.

·         Formation of a smaller advisory group who met online in October to finalise changes.

·         Target consultation with industry and providers through email in November 2024 and April 2025.

·         Wider public with consultation through Toi Mai’s website.

·         Feedback received around programme conditions was reviewed and incorporated into the reviewed document.

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

·         Removed Screen from the title.

·         Removed strands related to screen production: Gripping, Screen Assistant Direction, Screen Production Assistant, and Screen Special Effects. These strands have never been used.  New qualifications for the screen industry were developed to replace these strands.

  • Reduced the requirement for learners to complete two strands, to learners only having to complete one strand.
  • Revised Programme Conditions to recommend two strands, rather than require them.
  • Reduced qualification overall credit value, from 120 to 90 to reflect the completion of only one strand.
  • Reworded purpose to add a target audience.
  • Reworded Graduate Profile Outcome 2 to include diverse stakeholders.

·         Revised Programme Conditions to reflect industry expectations.

·         The scale of these changes necessitated a new qualification. The replaced qualification will be discontinued.
