Summary
Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council initiated a review of the Powered Industrial Lift Trucks unit standards. This review was triggered by the review cycle.
The three unit standards in this domain were reviewed and replaced by new skill standards in agreement with the technical advisory group (TAG). The content has been updated to reduce ambiguity and define critical assessment requirements for each of these key forklift skills.
This review process was undertaken between October 2024 and June 2025 and in consultation with a wide range of industry representatives, associations and providers during online TAG meetings, phone calls, and email feedback.
Main changes
· The unit standards were replaced by three skill standards.
· The credit value for replaced skill standard 40735 was reduced to 4.
· Unit standard 23229 Use safety harness system when working at height has been added as a pre-requisite to skill standard 40737.
Category C unit standards will expire at the end of December 2027
