Summary

As part of the review cycle, the review of two unit standards was conducted in conjunction with the review of New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 5) [Ref: 2357-2].  The review was announced on the Waihanga Ara Rau’s website and industry notified via the Scaffolding, Access and Rigging New Zealand Association (SARNZ) in mid-2025.  Online meetings were held with a technical advisory group made up of construction and infrastructure rigging representatives and key education providers between December 2024 and May 2025 to develop the suite of skill standards to meet industry needs.

The two unit standards in this application have been reviewed and were expired without replacement, as their content and intent diverge significantly. Upon review, it was determined that limitations in both coverage and relevance rendered them unfit for continued use in supporting industry needs.

The new Advanced Rigging skill standards have been developed to address the evolving and specialised competencies now expected in the field.  Their development ensures the New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 5) [Ref: 2357-3] reflects up-to-date skills and knowledge, supporting both industry expectations and the professional development of advanced riggers.  Additionally, due to their specialised nature, these standards have been categorised within the Advanced Rigging domain, distinguishing them from core rigging skills.

Main changes

·      Two Advanced Rigging skill standards were developed.

·      Two Core Rigging unit standards were set to expire without replacement as these are no longer required by industry.

Category D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2027
