The Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                               July 2025

Planned review date                                                                              December 2030

Summary

These unit standards were reviewed as part of the review of the New Zealand Certificate in Power Boat Systems Servicing and Repair (Technician) (Level 4) [Ref: 3848], the New Zealand Certificate in Power Boat Rigging (Level 4) [Ref: 3847], and the New Zealand Certificate in Yacht Rig Structures (Level 4) [Ref: 3126].

The decision was made to develop new unit standards, not skill standards at this stage to support the current suite of unit standards in this area.

The review process was undertaken between August 2024 and February 2025 and involved a provider and industry stakeholder representatives.

Main changes

·      Guidance Information was updated to reflect current legislation and assessment information, and definitions were added and updated for clarity.

·      Performance criteria 2.5 and 2.6 were removed from unit standard 25122.  These were removed as this unit standard does not involve the connection and commissioning of ancillary control systems.

·      Title of unit standard 29235 was updated to reflect a more focused approach.  Performance criteria for outcome 4 were re-numbered to improve logical flow.

·      Titles, outcomes and performance criteria for unit standards 23040, 25120 and 29235 were updated to include new terminologies.

·      Credit value of unit standard 25121 was increased from 4 to 8 to better reflect the notional hours required to complete the learning and assessment.

·      Credit value of unit standard 25123 was reduced from 6 to 4 to better reflect the notional hours required to complete the learning and assessment.

·      Four new unit standards were developed to address a current gap in the boatbuilding domain for the areas of filling systems, abrasion and marine ropes.

·      Standard setting body was changed from New Zealand Marine and Composites Industry Training Organisation to Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2027
