Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has completed the review and reinstatement of the unit standard listed above.
Date new versions published July 2025
Planned review date December 2030
Summary
This standard was used in programmes leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (Level 4) [Ref: 2388]. A replacement suite of unit standards for these programmes was published in 2022.
In 2023, Waihanga Ara Rau proposed to expire the replaced unit standards. Waihanga Ara Rau was not informed that this standard was still required, and it was set to expire in December 2027.
In 2025, Waihanga Ara Rau received a request from stakeholders to reinstate the unit standard because it is used as a refresher or introduction for staff who need to know about hazardous areas but do not necessarily work in that environment. Alternate unit standards are too detailed for these staff. Key stakeholders agreed with the reinstatement and the suggested updates to meet current industry requirements.
AS/NZS 3000:2018 and AS/NZS 60079.14: 2022 versions are not yet cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010. To address this, the two sector regulators, WorkSafe New Zealand and the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB), have agreed that any reference to these AS/NZS standards in the unit standards will have (version as cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations) instead of the year.
Main changes
· Guidance Information was updated to meet current industry requirements.
· References to AS/NZS 3000:2018 and AS/NZS 60079.14: 2022 have the year replaced by (version as cited in the Electricity (Safety) Regulations).
The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standard is December 2027.
