Summary

As a result of the planned standards review cycle, Maori Qualifications Services in conjunction with the Whakaruruhau, reviewed the Environment Māori unit standards (Domains - Māori Environmental Management, Māori Environmental Practices) to ensure they remain fit for purpose and meet the aspirations and needs of ākonga, as well as whānau, hapū, and iwi. Ten unit standards were reviewed.

Main changes

Other main changes that were made to the standards include the following:

·         Credits have been either increased or decreased for some standards to better reflect the time needed to complete their requirements.

·         Standards 26728 and 32430 have been lowered from Level 4 to Level 3. With little or no usage, the Whakaruruhau considered these standards would be more appealing to be delivered at Level 3. Minimal change was required to scale the content, knowledge, skills, and application to a Level 3 standard.

·        Standard 19670 Level 1 - The Whakaruruhau considered the knowledge, skills, and application of Outcome 2 would be better placed at Level 2. A new Level 2 standard was developed with the outcome 2 content. Outcome 1 would remain the same but as a new standard with new identification number and the standard would act as a pathway to the new Level 2 standard. Credits decreased from 2 to 1 to reflect the decrease in requirements.  Standard 19670 was set to expire.

·        Standard 16346 - The Whakaruruhau considered that as the Resource Management Act is undergoing significant reforms this standard will remain unchanged at this time.

·        Minor wording changes have been made to some outcomes and performance criteria for relevancy, consistency and to provide clarity for ākonga and kaiako.

·        Guidance Information has been updated and some definitions added.

·        Grammatical errors have been corrected.

Category C unit standard 19670 will expire at the end of December 2026.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category B unit standards is December 2027.
