Summary of review and consultation process |
|
The qualifications in Dance and generic Performing Arts were reviewed by Toi Mai Workforce Development Council as part of the five-year review cycle. The review was overseen by specialist advisory groups consisting of representatives from the sector and of providers currently offering programmes leading to the qualifications. Following preliminary engagements across the sector, two advisory groups, covering all relevant industry disciplines including Circus Arts, Dance, Pacific Dance and Musical Theatre, were convened in November 2023 and January 2024 to complete draft revision to the qualifications. The advisory groups had further meetings from February through August 2024, after which the proposed changes were distributed for consultation through an online survey and discussions with key stakeholders. Consultation feedback was integrated into the final versions as appropriate. |

Main changes resulting from the review process |

Main changes The General conditions for programmes, across all of the qualifications, were updated for clarity and to strengthen requirements for programmes to support diversity and inclusion, including an emphasis on Te Ao Māori and other cultural perspectives. The strategic purpose statements for the generic Performing Arts qualifications were amended to remove references to Circus Arts, Pasifika, and Musical Theatre to clarify that they can accommodate any field that covers two or more performance disciplines. Specific changes are as follows: · · New Zealand Certificate in Dance (Level 4) [Ref: 3413] · The strategic purpose statement and graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) were amended to indicate focus on community-based pathways, as well as preparation for industry. New Zealand Diploma in Dance (Level 5) [Ref: 3425] · The GPOs were updated accordingly to strengthen required skills areas for graduates entering industry. Focus areas include creativity, physical health and wellbeing, and professional practice. New Zealand Diploma in Dance (Level 6) [Ref: 3426] · The strategic purpose statement was amended to clarify operational scope where graduates will be able to operate independently as industry professionals. · The GPOs were updated accordingly to reflect current industry needs and terminology. New Zealand Certificate in Performing Arts (Level 3) [Ref: 3419] · The strategic purpose statement and GPOs were amended to clarify operational scope and expectations that graduates generally will not progress directly to employment in industry. New Zealand Certificate in Performing Arts (Level 4) [Ref: 3420] · The strategic purpose statement and graduate profile outcomes (GPOs) were amended to indicate focus on community-based pathways, as well as preparation for industry in a chosen integrated field. New Zealand Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 5) [Ref: 3433] · The strategic purpose statement was amended to clarify operational scope for graduates as an entry point into industry in a chosen integrated field. · The GPOs were updated accordingly to strengthen required skills areas for graduates entering industry. Focus areas include physical health and wellbeing, and professional practice. New Zealand Diploma in Dance (Level 6) [Ref: 3434] · The strategic purpose statement was amended to clarify operational scope where graduates will be able to operate independently as industry professionals in a chosen integrated field. · The GPOs were updated for clarity. |
