Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above and development of new skill standards to be listed in the Core Rigging domain.
Date new versions published March 2025
Planned review date December 2029
Summary
As part of the regular review cycle, the review of 14 unit standards was conducted in conjunction with the review of the:
- New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 3) [Ref: 2355]
- New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 4) with optional strands in Construction Rigging and Telecommunications Rigging [Ref: 2356].
The proposed review and development were announced on the Waihanga Ara Rau’s website in December 2023 and through the Scaffolding, Access and Rigging New Zealand Association (SARNZ).
A series of online and in person meetings were held with construction and infrastructure rigging representatives and key education providers between January and August 2024 to develop the suite of skill standards to meet industry needs. This was then followed by a period of public consultation on the proposed changes during September 2024.
The unit standards in this application have been reviewed and nine are replaced with newly developed skill standards to update them in line with current industry practice, and to ensure they are fit for purpose. Five unit standards are expired without replacement. The new skill standards align with version 3 of the rigging qualifications listed above.
New versions of the qualifications listed above were submitted to NZQA at the same time as the skill standards submitted and show the alignment of these standards to the qualifications.
Main changes
· 10 new skill standards were developed to describe competencies valued across the rigging industry aligned to the New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 3) [Ref: 2355-3] and New Zealand Certificate in Rigging (Level 4) [Ref: 2356-3].
- Nine unit standards were replaced by five new skill standards with some changes in credit value to better reflect the expected learning hours for the skills described.
- Five new skill standards were developed.
· Five unit standards were set to expire without replacement.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2027
