Summary of development and consultation process

Toitū te Waiora developed this new qualification in conjunction with four non-governmental organisations (Arthritis NZ, Heart Foundation, Diabetes New Zealand, Stroke Aotearoa NZ) following the development and listing of six new, related skill standards in 2024 (40483-40487).

The qualification is suitable for learners currently working in the health and wellbeing sector with people who have a theoretical and contextual knowledge of common long-term health conditions.

A draft qualification document was published on the Toitū te Waiora website in March 2025 and circulated via our networks for feedback. No feedback was received. This was anticipated due to the same stakeholder input into the approval and listing of the associated skill standards. No further changes were made to the qualification in the final submission.
