Hanga-Aro-Rau Manufacturing, Engineering and Logistics Workforce Development Council has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published November 2025
Planned review date December 2030
Summary
The review of the unit standards listed above was long overdue, as this industry has undergone extensive health and safety review, resulting in more stringent regulatory requirements identifying specific unit standards required for compliance. Part of this process included the development of new skill standards to reflect current industry expectations and regulatory obligations. Some unit standards were identified as no longer fit for purpose and have therefore been designated as expired without replacement. The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) who conducted the review consisted of industry, regulatory bodies and providers who have consent to assess.
Main changes
· Reviewed unit standards were updated in line with current industry practices, standards, Acts and regulations except those set to expire.
· Standard Setting Body was changed from MITO to Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council.
Extractive Industries Management
· Unit standard 24473 cover sheet for Australian unit of competency license agreement was updated.
· New skill standard 40993 was developed to replace unit standard 31092, which is no longer fit for purpose.
· New skill standards 40994 and 40995 were developed to address the specific knowledge and skills required by emergency first response teams in extractive industry rescue operations, capabilities not previously available within the specialised context of extractive industry emergency response.
Surface Extraction
· Unit standard 17700 was set to expire without replacement as it is no longer needed by industry.
Underground Extraction
· Unit standard 19863 title and outcomes were updated, and prerequisite standards were added.
Category C and D unit standards will expire at the end of December 2027
