Toitū te Waiora Community, Health, Education and Social Services Workforce Development Council (WDC) has reviewed the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                                                                   October 2025

Planned review date                                                                                               December 2030

Summary

Toitū te Waiora WDC identified the need for skill standards to replace the unit standards that align with the New Zealand Certificate in Prisoner Management (Level 3) [Ref: 2658], (Level 4) [Ref: 2659], and (Level 5) [Ref: 3877] graduate profile outcomes following a qualification review in 2023.

Review of the existing unit standards and development of skill standards took place between October 2024 and May 2025 in consultation with Department of Corrections, Serco, Te Pūkenga, Public Service Association, and the Corrections Association of New Zealand.

Wider consultation on these skill standards was sought through the Toitū te Waiora website in May 2025. No further revisions were required.

Main changes

·            12 unit standards were reviewed.

·            Unit standards 25008, 27293, 19067, 19068, and 19669 were set to expire without direct replacement. This is due to low intake or relevancy, or significant content overlap with other standards.

·            Seven skill standards were developed to replace seven unit standards.

·            Two new skill standards 40852 and 40853 were developed to cover parts of the unit standards 19067 and 19068.

·            Credit values have been revised for replacing skill standards 40850, 40854, 40855, 40856 and 40858, reflecting changes from their original unit standard versions and realistic time required to complete the standards as confirmed by the industry.

Category C and D unit standards will expire on 31 December 2026.
