Summary
Two unit standards in the Beauty Therapy domain have been reviewed to ensure their currency. This followed an earlier review of four related but more practically focused standards, resulting in their replacement by four new skill standards aligned to the updated New Zealand Certificate in Skin Care and Cosmetics (Level 3) [Ref: 3442].
The two unit standards that were reviewed focus on theoretical assessment and are widely used in preparatory contexts. As their purpose differs from the practical, industry-focused outcomes of the graduate profile of the qualification, they have been retained as unit standards. Updates were made to ensure currency, based on provider discussions and earlier feedback received.
Main changes
· The unit standards were reclassified from the Beauty Therapy domain to the Cosmetology domain, alongside the newly listed skill standards.
· Legislation and professional codes and guidelines were updated in unit standard 28946 for currency.
· Some ranges were repositioned from outcomes to performance criteria. Minor edits were made in the range statements based on general feedback received.
· Standard Setting Body details amended from NZ Hair and Beauty Industry Training Organisation Inc to Toi Mai Workforce Development Council.
