Summary of review and consultation process |
|
The Education, Health, and Community Industry Skills Board (EHC ISB) initiated a scheduled review of the New Zealand Diploma in Child Protection (Level 5) in June 2026. The EHC ISB published communications about the scheduled review asking for expressions of interests through our website and Ed Insider in June 2026. This allowed an opportunity for interested parties to feedback on the review. There is one provider delivering this qualification. Consultation was undertaken to understand current delivery and any implications of the current qualification. National consultation informed the final outcome of this review, that it remained fit for purpose with only minor changes being made to the content of the qualification. Responsibility for this qualification was transferred from Toitū te Waiora Workforce Development Council to the Education, Health, and Community Industry Skills Board to reflect the VET reforms. |

Main changes resulting from the review process |
|
Changes to the qualification include: · The Education Pathway was updated to include a broader scope in further learning for social work and teaching qualifications. · Removed reference to mandatory safety checking legislation from Employment, Cultural, Community Pathway. The statement was removed as it relates to employer legislative obligations for safety checking rather than a requirement of the qualification. Although the legislation remains relevant to employment in child-related services, compliance is managed by employers and is not a condition for awarding or completing the qualification. · Award statement updated. · Evidence requirements for assuring consistency removed, as no longer required. |
