Summary
Waihanga Ara Rau Construction and Infrastructure Workforce Development Council (WDC) and representatives from the asset management industry reviewed the Infrastructure Asset Management unit standards alongside the review of the New Zealand Diploma in Infrastructure Asset Management (Level 6) [Ref: 3180] during 2025. This resulted in the unit standards being expired and new skill standards being developed.
A technical advisory group was established with industry representatives from the energy, roading, district council, polytechnic, provider, university sectors and the industry association. Skill standards were developed to better reflect the skills and learning required. Consultation was undertaken in April and May 2026 using the Energy and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board (ISB) website, by email, and during an industry association conference. The technical advisory group completed the development of the skill standards.
Responsibility for the reviewed unit standards listed above and the new skill standards was transferred from Waihanga Ara Rau WDC to Energy and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board as a result of the VET reforms. The ISB has finalised these standards for approval.
Main changes
· 11 standards were set to expire without replacement.
· 11 new skill standards were developed.
