Registration of Temporary Traffic Management skill standards
The Energy and Infrastructure Industry Skills Board (ISB) has registered three new skill standards in the Temporary Traffic Management domain.

Summary
During the scheduled review of the Traffic Incident Management qualifications and standards, a need was identified for specific skills to support the transport operations sector. Transport centre operators actively monitor and manage transport networks in real-time across New Zealand. This role is critical for incident management on the road network to keep road users safe.
The intention to address the skill gap was announced on the Energy and Infrastructure Industry (ISB) website in February 2026. A prioritisation process was completed to confirm the need for the skill standards.
Online meetings with industry technical advisors from March through to June 2026 were made up of representatives from the transport operations centres and the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
Consultation with the wider transport operations sector industry and providers through online meetings and by email occurred during this time. This included the bi-monthly industry conversations webinar series for industry association leaders, employers, and sector representatives facilitated by the ISB.
Three new skill standards were developed with the intention to develop a transport operations micro-credential for this industry sector.
