Summary of development/review and consultation process

The scheduled review of the New Zealand Certificate in Medical Transcription and Editing (Level 4) commenced in 2026 by Sue’s Unlimited Limited. The review included consultation with industry stakeholders to ensure that current and future needs of the medical transcription industry were met.

The industry confirmed that the qualification remains fit for purpose.  The main change to the qualification is a title change, in line with international trends.

The Qualification Developer responsibilities for this qualification were transferred from Sue’s Unlimited Limited to the Education, Health and Community Industry Skills Board.

Main changes resulting from the development/review process

· Qualification Developer details were updated to reflect the transfer to the Education, Health and Community Industry Skills Board.

· Qualification title was updated from New Zealand Certificate in Medical Transcription and Editing (Level 4) to New Zealand Certificate in Healthcare Documentation (Level 4).

Minor changes include:

· Legislative requirements previously included in other requirements repositioned into general conditions for programmes.

· Qualification award updated.

· Evidence requirements for assuring consistency removed.
