Summary

Toi Mai Workforce Development Council undertook analysis of the above currently listed unit standards as part of a scheduled review of the standards and associated qualifications, New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) [Ref: 3228] and New Zealand Certificate in Sport Officiating (Level 3) [Ref: 3227]. Responsibility for these standards was transferred from Toi Mai WDC to Services Industry Skills Board to reflect VET reforms.

Following website consultation in June 2025 and targeted consultation with industry and providers delivering associated sport and recreation qualifications, the decision was made to review the existing unit standards and rollover four for continued use and replace eleven unit standards with two new skill standards.

Main changes

·       Thirteen level 2 and level 3 recreation and sport unit standards were reviewed:

o    6896 and 22768 will be expired without replacement.

o    21644, 31384, 31386, 31387 and 31388 to be replaced by new skill standard 41265.

o    22771, 25805, 31675, 31677, 31678 and 31679 to be replaced by new skill standard 41264.

·       Four unit standards were revised and rolled over – 20673, 21649, 27629, 31385.

Revision included updating legislation, minor inconsistencies in formatting and to performance criteria and guidance information, such as outdated references and definitions.

·       Category C and D unit standards will be expired December 2028 alongside the New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) [Ref: 3228] and New Zealand Certificate in Officiating (Level 3) [Ref: 3227] qualifications.

The last date for assessment of superseded versions of Category C and D unit standards is 31 December 2028
